With the execution of another prisoner named Shahram Sharqi, the number of prisoners executed today in Qezelhesar prison reached four. Hengaw has been informed that simultaneously with this, the prisoners in Qazalhasar prison in Karaj have started a mass hunger strike.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Saturday, May 20, 2023, the death sentence of a prisoner named Shahram Sharqi was carried out in Qezelhesar prison on drug-related charges. At the same time, the prisoners in this prison started a mass hunger strike.

According to an informed source, this hunger strike was done as a sign of protest against the execution of four prisoners, the disruption of the prison's telephone system, and the beating of the families of the prisoners who had gathered in the past few days.

At the dawn of this day and simultaneously with the execution of Shahram Sharqi, the death sentence of three prisoners from Kohdasht named Saeed Garavand, Samad Garavand, and Shahab Mansouri Nasab Garavand were carried out in Qezelhesar prison in Karaj. These three prisoners were previously sentenced to death for drug-related charges.

From Friday, May 19, following the publication of the news about the transfer of these three prisoners to solitary confinement by Hengaw, their families and several anti-death penalty people gathered in front of Qezelhesar prison, which their gathering turned into violence and was suppressed by the Iranian government repressive forces and the use of tear gas and shotguns.

Also, in the past two days, dozens of protesters, many of whom were women, were wounded in the head, face, arms, legs, and abdomen by bullets in front of Qezelhesar prison.
