Capital penalty of Five Prisoners Convicted of Rape executed in Marand-Iran

The execution order for five men from Marand city previously been convicted of rape and sentenced to death has been carried out.
 

According to a report received by the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, at the early hours on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, the death sentences for five men from Marand city, whose identities have not been confirmed yet, convicted of rape, has been executed. Precise information about the execution site of these five prisoners is currently unavailable, and it is unknown whether they were executed in Marand Prison or in the central prison of Tabriz.
 

Zia Mehr, the Prosecutor General of Marand city, while announcing these executions to government-affiliated media, stated that the death penalty for these five individuals has been executed today after approval by the Supreme Court of the Iran. However, no reference to the location of their execution was provided.
 

According to the Marand Prosecutor, these five prisoners were arrested on the 14th of June, 2022, and were later sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of rape. This sentence was also confirmed by the Supreme Court.
 

Based on the data recorded at the Hengaw organization for Human Rights, a minimum of 17 prisoners have been executed in various Iranian prisons on charges of rape since the beginning of the year.
