Hengaw: Tuesday, November 28, 2023
The death sentences of Shahram Mohammad Beigi, the third-ranking Asian Cross country running, and two fellow Kurdish inmates were carried out in Ilam Central Prison. Hengaw is currently investigating the identities of the other two prisoners.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shahram Mohammad Beigi, a 38-year-old Ilam native and two-time Iranian youth Cross Country running champion, was executed at dawn on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in the central prison of Ilam.
Arrested three years ago for the alleged murder of his friend Mojtaba Piri, Shahram Mohammad Beigi, also a father of three, received the death penalty from the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This accomplished athlete, holder of Asia’s third-place medal, had encountered prior challenges, having been arrested during the October 2019 protests and subsequently expelled from the university.
It is worth noting that in 2004, Shahram Mohammad Beigi secured the third position in the Asian Cross Country Running Championship and clinched the gold medal in domestic youth category competitions.
Hengaw is presently investigating the identities of the other two prisoners, both Kurdish citizens from Ilam, who faced death sentences on charges of intentional murder.
Significantly, news of these executions has yet to be disseminated through government-affiliated media, particularly outlets closely aligned with the judiciary, as of the time of compiling this report.
