In less than four months, 14 Afghan nationals have been executed in Iran

The death sentences of four Afghan prisoners—Zaman Taheri, Salam Taheri, Ibrahim Nurzahi, and Ghulam Qadarsamani—were implemented in Mashhad Central Prison. This brings the total number of Afghan prisoners executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran since the beginning of 2024 to 14.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in the early hours of Thursday, April 18, 2024, the death sentences of four Afghan prisoners, Zaman Taheri, Salam Taheri, Ibrahim Nurzahi, and Ghulam Qadarsamani, were carried out in Mashhad (Vakilabad) Central Prison.
Zaman Taheri and his brother Salam, along with two other prisoners, were detained five years ago on charges of drug trafficking and subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad. The execution of these individuals has not been officially announced in government media as of this moment.
Additionally, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the death sentence of Hojatollah Bakhtawer, a 23-year-old Afghan national, was implemented in the central prison of Tabriz. He was arrested three years ago for homicide and subsequently sentenced to death.
Based on statistics compiled by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, since the beginning of 2024 (less than four months), at least 14 Afghan nationals have been executed in Iranian prisons. In the year 2023, 28 Afghan nationals were executed by the Iranian government.
