Hengaw – Monday, August 31, 2026

Four Turkish prisoners, Yavar Alizadeh, Hossein Khalilian, Mojtaba Vahedi, and Davoud Tarkhan, have been executed in Tabriz Central Prison. They had been sentenced to death in separate cases on charges of “premeditated murder” and drug-related offenses.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions were carried out at dawn on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Alizadeh, 28, and Khalilian, 40, were from Tabriz. Vahedi, 28, a father of one, was from Alvar Sofla village in East Azerbaijan Province and resided in Zanjan. Tarkhan, 48, from Tabriz, was a father of four, including a child with a disability.

Alizadeh and Khalilian had been sentenced to death on charges of “premeditated murder.” Alizadeh was arrested four years ago in a case reportedly motivated by what was described as preserving “honor,” while Khalilian was arrested seven years ago on charges of killing his maternal cousin.

Vahedi and Tarkhan were sentenced to death on drug-related charges in separate cases. Vahedi was arrested three years ago and Tarkhan four years ago.

The executions of the four prisoners have not been announced by state media, including outlets affiliated with Iran’s judiciary.
