Esfahan: Baha'i Adherent, Arash Nabawi Sentenced to 10 years in prison

Arash Nabawi, a Baha'i adherent residing in Isfahan, has been sentenced by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran to a total of ten years in prison, along with additional penalties.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Arash Nabawi, a 38-year-old adherent of the Baha'i faith and resident of Isfahan, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the First Branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court of Isfahan, presided over by Mohammad Reza Tawakli. This sentence stems from charges of "membership in gangs and groups with the aim of disrupting security." Additionally, Nabawi has been fined 50 million tomans and received an additional five-year prison sentence for "propaganda activity against the Islamic Sharia," of which five years are enforceable.

As an additional penalty, Arash Nabawi has been sentenced to a two-year prohibition from using social media and leaving the country, along with the confiscation of his property.

According to the verdict, the following items belonging to Arash Nabawi are to be seized and confiscated: a mobile phone, flash memory, tablet, SIM card, and various books and materials associated with the Baha'i faith..

On August 14, 2023, Iranian government forces arrested Arash Nabawi following a search of his residence, during which some of his personal belongings were seized. After two months in custody, he was released on bail.
