Hengaw– Saturday, July 19, 2025
Two Baha’i men from Tabriz, Sina Aghdasi and Iraj Nouresteh, have been transferred to Tabriz Central Prison to serve one-month prison sentences following the reduction of their original convictions on appeal.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the two men were arrested and transferred to prison to begin serving their sentence. Initially, both were sentenced to one year in prison—comprising nine months suspended and three months of mandatory imprisonment. An appellate court later reduced the custodial portion to one month.
Aghdasi and Nouresteh were first arrested on September 16, 2024, by Iranian security forces in Tabriz. During the arrests, security agents raided their homes, confiscated mobile phones, and seized personal belongings from both them and their family members.
Sina Aghdasi has previously been arrested solely for his religious beliefs. Reports also indicate that authorities made at least two unsuccessful attempts to detain Iraj Nouresteh in the past year.
