Hengaw: Wednesday, June 26, 2024
Idris Áli, a Kolbar from Sardasht in the West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province, has been sentenced to death after three months in detention. The sentence, handed down by the Iranian judicial system, is based on a forced confession by the IRGC intelligence forces.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Idris Áli, a 31-year-old Kolbar and father of two, has been sentenced to death by the 3rd Branch of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia. He has been charged with "espionage for Israel."
Idris Áli was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces in Sardasht nearly three months ago and has since been transferred to the political ward of Urmia Prison.
Idris Áli's case has been appealed to the Iranian Supreme Court following his protest against the death sentence. To date, he has been denied fundamental rights, including access to a lawyer.
It is important to note that besides Idris Áli, there are four additional defendants in this case. Each of them has been released on bail after a period of detention.
