Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of political prisoner Mohammad-Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh, who is currently being held in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

According to information received by the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, the verdict was recently confirmed by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court, presided over by Judge Ghasem Hosseini Kouhkamari.

During his detention, he was subjected to physical and psychological torture and coercion by security forces, which led to his forced confession under duress.

Mahdavi Shayesteh, 27, was denied fundamental legal rights throughout his detention, including access to a lawyer of his choosing and other basic civil liberties.

Previously, Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, led by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, had sentenced him to death on charges of “collaborating with Israel,” along with an additional five-year prison term for “insulting Islamic sanctities.”

He was arrested on Monday, December 4, 2023, and held in a security detention center for nearly three months under interrogation. He was later transferred to Ward 4 of Evin Prison—commonly used for those accused of espionage—and subsequently moved to Ghezel Hesar Prison.
