Manouchehr Fallah, a Gilak political prisoner from Rasht, currently imprisoned in Lakan Prison, has been sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of “moharebeh" (waging war against God) through actions against national security.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a verdict issued today, Sunday, February 2, 2025, and delivered to his lawyers, Ms. Khorsandi and Ms. Khojasteh, confirms that Manouchehr Fallah has been sentenced to death by Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar on the charge of “moharebeh" (waging war against God) through actions against national security.

It is worth noting that Fallah's trial was held via videoconference on December 11, 2024. Throughout the judicial proceedings, he was denied access to legal representation.

In August 2024, Manouchehr Fallah went on a hunger strike to protest his prolonged detention and the framing up of a new case against him. His hunger strike lasted 28 days and was eventually ended following requests from fellow inmates and former political prisoners.

Judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar had previously referred Fallah's case back to the prosecutor's office, seeking to charge him with "Moharebeh" and "Baghy" (armed rebellion), stating that "the prosecutor and judiciary had made a mistake, and he should be re-indicted."

Additionally, in December 2023, Fallah had been sentenced in another case by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Mehdi Rasekhi. He received a one-year, three-month, and one-day prison sentence for "insulting Khamenei" and a further seven months and sixteen days for "propaganda against the government." He completed this sentence in May 2024.

In October 2023, Fallah also staged a hunger strike to protest his continued detention and abeyance.
Security forces arrested Manouchehr Fallah in July 2023 at Rasht Airport and later transferred to the Misagh ward of Lakan Prison in Rasht.
