Tehran: Houra Nikbakht Sentenced to One Year of Imprisonment

Houra Nikbakht, a publisher, university lecturer, and women's rights activist imprisoned in Evin Prison in Tehran, has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment by the Iranian judiciary.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Houra Nikbakht, the publisher and director of "Mashq-e Barabari" Publications residing in Tehran, was recently sentenced to one year of imprisonment by Branch 26 of the Tehran's Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, on charges of "propaganda against the regime" and "insulting Khamenei." This sentence was communicated to her on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Notably, the hearing for these charges was held on July 10 in the same branch.

Houra Nikbakht was arrested on June 12, 2024, after being summoned and appearing at the third branch of the Evin Prosecutor's Office and was subsequently transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison.
