Teachers’ union activist Kobra Taherkhani sentenced to prison in Qazvin

Kobra Taherkhani, a teachers’ union activist from Qazvin, has been sentenced by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s judiciary to three years of discretionary imprisonment along with additional penalties.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Taherkhani, a school principal and well-known union activist, was sentenced by Branch Two of the Qazvin Revolutionary Court to three years in prison and a three-year travel ban. She was convicted on charges of “insulting Khamenei” and “propaganda against the regime.”
The sentence was issued in March 2025, with the charges based on content she shared on her Instagram account and a report by the Qazvin IRGC Intelligence Organization.
Kobra Taherkhani had previously been arrested at her home in December 2024 by IRGC Intelligence agents.
