A civilian identified as "A. M." lost his life due to torture by the Islamic Republic of Iran's security forces, one day after being detained at the Gilan Gharb police detention center. This individual had been arrested on charges of involvement in the intentional killing of another citizen.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, a citizen identified as "A. M." was arrested by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s security forces and died due to torture in the Gilan Gharb detention center on September 4, just one day after his arrest. The full identity of this individual is currently under investigation.

As reported by the state-run IRNA website, Khodr Veysi, the Gilan Gharb Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor, following the news of the detainee's death due to torture, stated: "The deceased suspect, who had a history of multiple criminal offenses and substance abuse, was the main suspect in the intentional murder of another citizen. This individual had been placed under police custody on Tuesday (September 3) by judicial order with appropriate bail."

He also claimed that "Yesterday (September 4), this individual became ill while being transferred for interrogation, and the efforts of the police and hospital emergency personnel to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, leading to his death. Initial investigations of the detention site and an external examination of the body show, contrary to claims made by hostile media, that the body bore no visible signs of injury, and torture is ruled out."

Meanwhile, Hengaw's sources have reported that the individual in question died due to torture by the security forces, only one day after his arrest. This civilian was arrested along with another man and a woman from Gilan Gharb.

According to statistics recorded by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights' Statistics and Documentation Center, including this case, at least eight citizens have died under torture by the Islamic Republic of Iran's security forces since the beginning of 2024.
