Sanandaj: Report on the Detention and Uncertain Situation of a Young Couple

A young Kurdish couple, identified as Mehran Mahmoudian from Saqqez and Parastoo Ahmadi from Marivan, who is also pregnant, were arrested by the security agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran earlier this spring and remain in detention without any clarity about their situation.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, 32-year-old Mehran Mahmoudian from Saqqez, along with his pregnant wife, 27-year-old Parastoo Ahmadi, were arrested by agents of the Intelligence Department near Saqqez around five months ago. Despite Parastoo Ahmadi's pregnancy, she has been denied access to medical services.

Hengaw has learned that this young couple, who had previously resided in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for several years, were arrested by the Intelligence Department forces five months ago while en route to Turkey and have since been denied the right to access legal representation.

Mehran Mahmoudian is currently being held in the political ward of Sanandaj Central Prison, while Parastoo Ahmadi is detained in the women’s ward of this prison, referred to by the Iranian Islamic State as the "Center for Correction and Rehabilitation."
