Farid Badidast, a Kurdish man from Divandareh, has been sentenced to 20 months of imprisonment by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was initially arrested by security forces during the late spring of 2024.

According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Badidast was recently convicted by Branch 1 of the Sanandaj (Sine) Revolutionary Court. He was found guilty of "propaganda against the state" and "collaboration with one of the Kurdish opposition parties," resulting in a combined sentence of 20 months in prison. The verdict has now been officially communicated to him.

Badidast was arrested on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, during a raid by security forces at his family’s residence. The arrest was conducted without the presentation of an arrest warrant and involved the use of violence.

After spending several months in detention, Badidast was temporarily released on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings. During his detention, he was reportedly denied access to legal counsel.
