Prisoner dies due to delayed medical transfer in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Meysam Shokri, a 32-year-old prisoner held in pretrial detention at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj on charges related to drug offenses, has died after suffering a heart attack and not being transferred to a medical facility in a timely manner.
According to reports obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Friday, January 17, 2025. Shokri, who had a pre-existing heart condition and relied on a cardiac pacemaker, experienced a severe health decline and a heart attack.
Despite his critical condition, prison authorities delayed his transfer to a hospital, ultimately resulting in his death.
