Kurdish women’s rights activist, Aida Amoui, arrested by security forces in Sanandaj

Aida Amoui, a Kurdish women’s rights activist from the city of Sanandaj (Sine), has been arrested by the Intelligence forces, with her fate currently unknown.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Friday, January 17, 2025, Aida Amoui, a 40-year-old activist from Sanandaj, was arrested by Intelligence Department forces and transferred to an undisclosed location.
A source close to Amoui’s family stated that Intelligence Department agents arrested her at her Taekwondo club without presenting an arrest warrant and resorted to violence during the arrest.

Hengaw has learned that Aida Amoui, who is married and a mother of two, had been repeatedly threatened by Intelligence Department forces via phone calls over the past month.

So far, no detailed information has been made available regarding the reasons for her arrest, the charges against her, or her whereabouts and condition.
