Prisoner executed in Birjand Prison

The death sentence of Abdollah Safarzahi, a Baloch prisoner previously convicted on drug-related charges, was carried out in Birjand Central Prison, South Khorasan Province.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Abdollah Safarzahi, a father of one and a resident of Aq Qala County, Golestan Province, was executed in Birjand Central Prison.
Informed sources stated that Safarzahi had been arrested five years ago in a joint case with another man, Abbas Bamari, on charges of drug trafficking and possession of military weapons.
Hengaw previously reported on the execution of Abbas Bamari, 46, a father of three from the village of Pirvash Sofla, Aq Qala, Golestan Province, on February 16, 2025. At that time, Safarzahi’s execution was postponed due to severe illness.
As of the time of this report, state-affiliated media, particularly those linked to the judiciary, have not announced this execution.
