At least five prisoners, including an Afghan national executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

The death sentences of at least five prisoners—Mahmoud-Ali Naseri, Akbar Mousavi, Salahuddin Amoudi, Emanollah Balochi, and one Afghan national prisoner named Abdullah Pashtouyi—were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Two days prior, it had been reported that eight prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement in this prison in preparation for the execution of their death sentences.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, the death sentences of Mahmoud-Ali Naseri and Akbar Mousavi, prisoners from Delfan; Salahuddin Amoudi, a prisoner from Ardabil; Emanollah Balochi, a 56-year-old prisoner from Zahedan; and Abdullah Pashtouyi, an Afghan national, were carried out in Ghezel Hesar.

Abdullah Pashtouyi had previously been sentenced to death on the charge of “enmity against God (moharebeh) through armed robbery”, while the other prisoners had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

Akbar Mousavi, aged 39, had been detained for four years, and Mahmoud-Ali Naseri, aged 43, had been detained for five years, both on drug-related charges.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced in state-affiliated media, particularly those close to the Iranian judiciary.
