Maku: Kurdish singer Hassan Ahmadi arrested by security forces

Hassan Ahmadi, a Kurdish singer from the city of Maku known by his artistic name “Hassan Renas,” has been arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and transferred to an undisclosed location.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Hassan Ahmadi was detained by security forces at his residence in Maku.
The arrest was carried out without the presentation of a search warrant, and security agents thoroughly searched his home during the operation.
Hassan Ahmadi is known as an active figure at the Cultural and Artistic Center of Maku.
As of the time of this report, there is no detailed information available regarding the reasons for his arrest, his whereabouts, or his condition.
It is worth noting that Hassan Ahmadi had participated in the major Newroz celebration in Urmia on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, which was attended by over 150,000 people.
Previously, three of his relatives — Evin Ahmadi (16), Sarya Ahmadi (17), and Rojbin Afsoun, all from Urmia — were also arrested by security forces on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Their arrests were linked to their participation in the Urmia Newroz celebrations, during which they wore traditional Kurdish clothing featuring the flag of Kurdistan.
