Execution of three prisoners in Zanjan Central Prison

The death sentences of three inmates—two of whom were Turks—were carried out at Zanjan Central Prison. They had previously been convicted on charges of premeditated murder and drug-related offenses.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions took place at dawn on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, inside Zanjan Central Prison. The men executed were identified as Kavous Golshan, 35, from Ahar; Ali Moharami, 40, from Zanjan; and Mohsen Hesari. Limited information is available on Hesari’s personal background.
The Iran Human Rights Organization reported that both Moharami and Golshan had been arrested three years earlier in separate cases related to drug trafficking and were subsequently sentenced to death.
Hesari was arrested five years ago on charges of premeditated murder and was later sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The executions had not been publicly acknowledged by Iranian state media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
