Hamid Shirzai and Mahmoud Shirvani executed in separate prisons

The death sentences of two prisoners, Hamid Shirzai and Mahmoud Shirvani, were carried out in the central prisons of Birjand and Kahnooj, respectively. Both men had been convicted by the Iranian judiciary on charges related to drug offenses and premeditated murder.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shirzai, 39, also known as Emanollah was a Baloch father of ten from Zahedan and resident of Gorgan. He was executed at dawn on Monday in Birjand Central Prison, South Khorasan Province. Shirzai had been arrested six years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. He was transferred to solitary confinement the day before his execution and granted a final visit with his family.

On the same day, the execution of Shirvani, a resident of Kahnooj, was carried out in Kahnooj Central Prison, Kerman Province. He had been convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.

State-affiliated media, including those close to the judiciary, have not reported on these executions.
