Child offender Meysam Irandegani executed at Iranshahr Prison

Iranian authorities have executed 18-year-old Baloch child offender Meysam Irandegani at Iranshahr Central Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Irandegani was 14 years old at the time of the alleged offense.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the execution was carried out at dawn on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Iranshahr Central Prison.

Irandegani was arrested approximately four years and two months ago, at the age of 14, following an altercation at the auto repair shop where he worked in Khash.

Information obtained by Hengaw indicates that the confrontation began after four men asked him to dismantle a stolen vehicle. When he refused, they allegedly attacked his grandfather, who owned a bakery adjacent to the repair shop. During the ensuing confrontation, Irandegani reportedly stabbed one of the attackers while defending his grandfather, resulting in the man's death.

Irandegani later voluntarily surrendered himself to the judicial authorities. He was initially held at the Juvenile Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Zahedan before being transferred to Iranshahr Central Prison.

The execution of individuals for offenses committed while they were under the age of 18 constitutes a clear violation of Article 37 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both of which Iran has ratified.
