Majid Daryaei, a Kurdish former political prisoner from the city of Oshnavieh (Shno), has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s judiciary despite prior imprisonment.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court in Oshnavieh convicted Daryaei on charges of “propaganda against the state in favor of opposition groups.”

He was summoned to the First Investigative Branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Oshnavieh on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. After being formally charged, he was released on bail pending trial.

This is not the first time Daryaei has faced imprisonment. In February 2018, he was arrested along with 19 other residents of Oshnavieh. After three months in detention, he was temporarily released on bail set at 300 million toman.

In February 2019, Daryaei was sentenced by the Oshnavieh General Court to two years and six months in prison on charges of “collaborating with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.” That sentence was later reduced on appeal to three months and ten days.

He was re-arrested on Saturday, August 3, 2019, and transferred to Oshnavieh Central Prison to serve his sentence. He was released upon completing his term.
