Hengaw – Wednesday, October 1, 2025

Taimur Khaledian, a Kurdish civil activist from Qorveh, has been on hunger strike for ten days in protest against his forcible transfer to Malayer Central Prison and what he describes as unlawful judicial proceedings in his case.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Khaledian, who has been sentenced to six months in prison, was arrested on Sunday, September 21, 2025 and to serve his sentence. Immediately after his arrest, he began a hunger strike in protest against the irregularities in his case and his transfer from Qorveh to Malayer Prison.

Sources confirmed that the 36-year-old prisoner was first taken to Qorveh Prison to begin serving his sentence but was then unlawfully transferred to Malayer Prison, where he launched his hunger strike upon arrival.

Khaledian, originally from Qorveh and now residing in Malayer, was sentenced by Serishabad Court to six months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He was arrested and transferred to prison on the same day.

He has a history of repeated arrests. During the December 2018–January 2019 nationwide protests, he was detained for 20 days and later sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Malayer, presided over by Judge Behnam Rezavandi, to 20 months in prison and three months suspended. Khaledian had also been detained in 2015 and 2016 for allegedly providing information about prisons to human rights outlets.

In earlier testimonies, Khaledian stated that he was tortured and sexually assaulted at Police Station No. 12 in Malayer, where officers beat him severely and assaulted him with batons under orders “to be worse than the tortures in Kahrizak detention center.” These abuses left him with serious physical injuries and lasting trauma.

Kahrizak Detention Center, near Tehran, became notorious after the 2009 protests, when detainees were tortured, sexually assaulted, and killed in custody, prompting its closure after a nationwide scandal.
