Rise in executions at Qom Central Prison: Karim Shahmohammadi among the latest victims

The execution of Karim Shahmohammadi at Qom Central Prison has brought the number of prisoners executed at this facility to two in recent days. Both prisoners had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shahmohammadi—a resident of the Vardavard district in Tehran—was executed at dawn on Sunday, June 1, 2025. He had been arrested four years earlier on charges related to drug offenses and was subsequently sentenced to death. 

Earlier that same day, Hengaw reported the execution of another prisoner, Shahriar Khalafi, also at Qom Central Prison and also convicted on drug-related charges.

State media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary, have not publicly announced the executions.
