Ahvaz: Two retiree protesters sentenced to two years in prison

Hengaw – Thursday, June 12, 2025
Mohammad Zaman Kamrava and Morad Zahrabi, two participants in a retirees’ protest in Ahvaz, have each been sentenced to two years in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the Second Branch of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court convicted the two men on charges of “assembly and collusion to act against internal or external security” and “propaganda against the state.” The verdict was issued and officially communicated on June 6, 2025.
The case stems from their participation in a protest held by Social Security retirees in front of the Social Security Organization building in Ahvaz in February 2022.
Mohammad Zaman Kamrava was previously arrested by security forces on May 1, 2024, following a separate retirees’ protest in Ahvaz. He was later released after a period of detention.
Both Kamrava and Zahrabi are retired Social Security beneficiaries residing in Ahvaz. Their legal defense is currently being handled by attorney Farzaneh Zilabi.
