Appeals court upholds Amirmohammad Ahmadi's five-year prison sentence

An Iranian appeals court has upheld the five-year prison sentence and two-year travel ban imposed on Amirmohammad Ahmadi, a 19-year-old January protest detainee currently held in Great Tehran Penitentiary.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, sentenced Ahmadi, a 19-year-old from Tehran, to five years in prison and banned him from leaving Iran for two years.

The ruling was recently upheld in full by the Tehran Province Court of Appeals, six months after the original verdict was issued.

Iranian forces arrested Ahmadi on January 2, 2026, and transferred him to Great Tehran Penitentiary, where he has remained in detention ever since.
