Execution of two Afghan nationals carried out in Birjand prison

The death sentences of two Afghan nationals were carried out at the Central Prison of Birjand, located in South Khorasan Province. One of the prisoners has been identified as Nazir Mohammad, who had previously been sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of premeditated murder.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions of Nazir Mohammad and another Afghan prisoner—whose identity remains under investigation—were implemented early hours on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Birjand Prison.
Both individuals had been arrested on charges of premeditated murder and were ultimately sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
The executions have not been officially announced by state media, particularly outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
