Kurdish environmental activist Johar Harki sentenced to prison in Oshnavieh

Johar Harki, a mountaineer, environmental activist, and cultural advocate for the Kurdish language from Oshnavieh (Shno), has been sentenced to ten months in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, July 7, 2025, the Oshnavieh Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ali Ansari, sentenced Harki to ten months of discretionary imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the regime in favor of anti-Islamic Republic groups.”

According to informed sources, Harki had previously been summoned at least twice by the Oshnavieh Intelligence Department without a warrant and interrogated for several hours. During these interrogations, his mobile phone was confiscated by security forces.
