Four prisoners executed in Rasht and Sari Prisons

The death sentences of four prisoners — Iman Afshari, Hadi Gerousi, Mehdi Babaei, and Abbasali Jahangiri — have been carried out in the prisons of Rasht and Sari. These individuals had previously been convicted of drug-related charges and premeditated murder by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Hadi Gerousi (28), Mehdi Babaei (31), and Peyman Afshari were executed at Lakan Central Prison in Rasht.
Peyman Afshari had been in detention for four years and seven months, while Hadi Gerousi and Mehdi Babaei had both been arrested five years ago in a joint case on charges of premeditated murder, and were later sentenced to death.
In a separate case, on the morning of Sunday, July 13, 2025, Abbasali Jahangiri, a 40-year-old man from Gorgan in Golestan province, was executed in Sari Central Prison. He had been arrested five years earlier on drug-related charges and sentenced to death.
None of these executions have been officially announced by state media or judiciary-affiliated outlets.
