Mahabad court sentences Kurdish student Pouya Nasiri to prison

Pouya Nasiri, a Kurdish student from Mahabad, has been sentenced to prison by the Iranian judiciary.
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nasiri, an undergraduate law student at Islamic Azad University of Mahabad, was convicted by Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court on charges of “propaganda against the state.” The court sentenced him to three months in prison, suspended for two years.
Nasiri was arrested on June 19, 2025, by Iranian security forces in Mahabad and released on bail on July 8, pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.
He had previously been detained on October 30, 2023, by the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Mahabad and was later released.
