Executions in Birjand Central Prison rise to two in a single day

Iranian authorities executed a prisoner, Behzad Nowabi, in Birjand Central Prison, South Khorasan Province, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. His execution brings the total number of prisoners executed in the facility that day to two.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nowabi, a resident of Kerman, was executed at dawn on Tuesday. He had been arrested two years earlier on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death.

Earlier the same day, Hengaw reported the execution of another prisoner, Asef Rakhshani, a 28-year-old Baloch man and father of eight children, also in Birjand Prison.

These executions had not been announced in Iranian state media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary.
