Bandar Abbas— Afghan national Nawab Popalzai executed in secret

The death sentence of Nawab Popalzai, a 28-year-old Afghan national from Eliasabad village in Farah Province, Afghanistan, was carried out in Bandar Abbas Central Prison without prior notice to his family and in complete secrecy. He had previously been convicted on drug-related charges.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Popalzai was executed at dawn on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in Bandar Abbas Central Prison.
He had been arrested two years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
Sources informed Hengaw that the execution was conducted without allowing him a final meeting with his family.
Iranian state media, including judiciary-affiliated outlets, have not reported on Popalzai’s execution.
