Kuhdasht— Political activist Rostam Bagheri sentenced to three years in prison

Hengaw – Saturday, September 20, 2025
Rostam Bagheri, a 36-year-old political activist from Kuhdasht in Lorestan Province and father of one, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to three years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “insulting Ali Khamenei.” He has already spent more than three months in detention.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, security agencies obstructed the legal process that would normally allow his temporary release on bail pending trial.
During his detention, Bagheri — a business management graduate — was subjected to torture, including suspension from the ceiling and severe beatings that ruptured his eardrum.
He has also been denied his basic rights, including phone calls and family visits.
Bagheri was arrested on June 21, 2025, by Intelligence Department forces in Kuhdasht and later transferred to Khorramabad Central Prison. He had previously faced arrest and prosecution for his political activities.
