Writer Maryam Delbari held without furlough in Adelabad Prison

Hengaw – Tuesday, September 23, 2025
Maryam Delbari, a 46-year-old writer and researcher from Abadan in Khuzestan Province, is serving an 18-month prison sentence in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz, on charges of “propaganda against the state.” She has been denied the right to furlough since her imprisonment.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Delbari, an independent writer and lecturer in philosophy, was convicted by the Shiraz Revolutionary Court and transferred to Adelabad Prison on May 7, 2025, following her arrest by security forces. She was initially held for two days at Detention Center No. 100 before being moved to prison.
Her detention was based on a ruling previously issued against her, with the Shiraz judiciary’s Enforcement of Judgments Office issuing an arrest warrant on April 29, 2025.
Delbari had earlier been sentenced in 2017 to 18 months in prison, two years of exile, and mandatory service at the Women’s Seminary of Bushehr for alleged links to the Qaderi Sufi order of Kurdistan.
