Iranian court sentences Ali Daneshi to prison over traditional attire

Ali Daneshi, a Kurdish resident of Mahabad, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to four months in prison for wearing traditional Kurdish clothing.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad convicted Daneshi for wearing Kurdish attire in Khaki colour, including a Jamana, at a wedding ceremony. He was handed a four-month suspended sentence.

On Friday, May 9, 2025, Daneshi was violently arrested by Iranian security forces in Mahabad. He was later released on bail of 2.5 billion rials pending trial.
