Hengaw – Tuesday, September 30, 2025

Paria Marandiz, a Baha’i resident of Tehran, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to three years in prison and a two-year ban on social media use.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court convicted Marandiz on charges of “propaganda against the state.”

Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, two years of her sentence will be enforced, while the remaining 18 months has been suspended for five years.

The charges against Marandiz stem from alleged propaganda activities during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran. Following the outbreak of the war, she was repeatedly summoned and interrogated by security agencies. On June 17, 2025, she was briefly detained in Tehran, during which her home was raided and belongings including books, religious images, laptops, and mobile phones belonging to her and her family were confiscated.
