Number of executed prisoners in Tabriz Prison rises to seven

Hengaw– Monday, September 8, 2025
With the identification of two Turkish prisoners—Sadegh Bahmani and Mojtaba Salemi—the number of executions carried out in Tabriz Central Prison has risen to seven. Previously, the identities of five Kurdish prisoners—Keyvan Mamadi, Najib Azarm, Babak Omarzadeh, Houshang Hanareh, and Tawfiq Ne’mati—had been confirmed.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Sunday, September 7, 2025, Bahmani and Salemi, both from Tabriz, were executed in Tabriz Central Prison. Bahmani had been arrested four years ago on drug-related charges, and Salemi six years ago on similar charges. Both were later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
Hengaw had earlier reported that on the same day, five Kurdish prisoners—Mamadi from Drik village in Salmas; Azarm from Kalankani village in Tergever, Urmia; Ne’mati from Bardizi village, Sumay-ye Beradust, Urmia; Hanareh from Khalian village, Sumay-ye Beradust, Urmia; and Omarzadeh, also from Sumay-ye Beradust, Urmia—were executed in the same prison.
Mamadi and Azarm had been convicted on drug-related charges, while Omarzadeh, Hanareh, and Ne’mati were arrested four years ago in a joint case, also on drug-related charges, and sentenced to death. All six prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement on Friday in preparation for their executions.
Hengaw has confirmed that the executions of these seven prisoners were carried out without allowing them a final visit with their families. Relatives were only notified after the executions had taken place.
Iranian state media, including judiciary-affiliated outlets, have not published news of these executions.
