Cleric executed in Sepidar prison, Ahvaz

Seyed Javad Mortazavi, a cleric from Behbahan in Khuzestan Province, was executed at dawn on Sunday in Sepidar Prison, Ahvaz. He had been convicted of premeditated murder.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has learned that Mortazavi, who managed a marriage registration office in Behbahan, was arrested two and a half years ago on charges of killing Hossein Khalafi, the husband of his former secretary. He was later sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.

State-run media, including outlets affiliated with the judiciary, had not reported the execution.
