Samrand Vojoudi sentenced to prison for wearing Kurdish clothing

Iranian authorities have handed a four-month suspended prison sentence to Samrand Vojoudi, a 38-year-old Kurdish man from Mahabad, for wearing what they described as “earth-colored Kurdish clothing.”

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court recently issued the verdict after Vojoudi wore traditional Kurdish clothing in an earthy tone during a friend’s wedding ceremony.

He was arrested at dawn on Friday, May 9, 2025, when security forces raided the event with excessive force and beat him severely. Vojoudi was later released on bail of 2.5 billion rials after being held at the Intelligence Department’s detention facility.
