Jamileh Azizi becomes third woman to die in Qarchak Varamin Prison in 9 months

Hengaw – Saturday, September 20, 2025
Jamileh Azizi, a female prisoner held in Qarchak Varamin Prison, has died due to what has been described as a lack of adequate medical care. She is the third woman to die in this facility in 2025 as a result of insufficient treatment.
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Azizi died on Friday, September 19, 2025, after medical staff at the prison failed to provide appropriate care.
Sources familiar with the case said that despite examining Azizi and observing signs of a stroke, staff at the Qarchak Varamin infirmary returned her to the ward without providing treatment.
At the time of publication, no clear information was available about the charges against Jamileh Azizi or other details of her case.
Data collected by Hengaw’s Statistics and Documentation Center show that at least three female prisoners have died at Qarchak Varamin Prison over the past 9 months — since the beginning of 2025 — due to inadequate medical attention. Maryam Shahraki died there on September 13, and Farzaneh Bijanipour on January 11 of this year.
