Hengaw – Tuesday, October 28, 2025

Four Kurdish political prisoners from Abdanan (Awdanan), Mohammad Danyali, Vahid Chawaran, Naser Rezaei and Mohammad Hossein Haseli, have been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to a total of thirteen years and six months in prison in a new case. Three of the men had previously been detained during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) uprising and, in an earlier case, each was sentenced to twelve years’ imprisonment and internal exile to the prisons of Kerman, Zahedan and Mashhad.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch Two of the Criminal Court One of Ilam Province sentenced Chawaran and Rezaei each to five years in prison on charges of “possession of firearms.” Danyali received two years for “possession of a Colt pistol,” while Haseli was sentenced to one year for “participation in assault and battery” and an additional six months for “possession of a hunting rifle,” bringing their combined sentences to thirteen years and six months.

Haseli was also ordered to pay a fine of ten million tomans and compensation to the complainant as a supplementary punishment.

Rezaei and Chawaran, both civil activists, mountaineers and paragliding instructors from Abdanan (Awdanan), together with Haseli, a resident of the town of Sarab Bagh in Abdanan County, were transferred to the prisons of Kerman, Zahedan and Mashhad on May 4, 2025, to serve their previous sentences.

In their earlier case, the three Kurdish prisoners had been sentenced by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Ilam on January 8, 2024, to twelve years’ imprisonment and exile each on charges of “enmity against God (moharebeh)” and “assembly and collusion against national security.”

Haseli was arrested on July 26, 2023, Chawaran on June 23, 2023, and Rezaei on August 13, 2023, before being transferred to Ilam Central Prison.

Danyali, who had previously been sentenced to two years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “committing a social offence,” was arrested in Dehloran on March 15, 2025, and transferred to Ilam Central Prison to begin serving his sentence.
