Kurdish protest detainee Mojtaba Nodehi sentenced to suspended prison term, flogging and fine

Mojtaba Nodehi, a Kurdish man from Bojnord who was detained during Iran’s January 2026 protests, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term, flogging and a fine.

According to information obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Nodehi was recently sentenced to three years’ suspended imprisonment, 74 lashes and a fine of 100 million tomans.

He faces charges including “assembly and collusion,” “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” and “assaulting law enforcement officers.” Two separate legal cases have been opened against him, and the verdict in the second case has not yet been issued.

Nodehi was arrested using force and was taken to hospital on the night of his arrest because of the severity of his injuries. He was subjected to severe torture while in detention.

Nodehi had previously been arrested during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement and spent a period in prison.
