Death sentences issued for three Kurdish and Baloch prisoners of conscience, including a woman, on charges of “Moharebeh”

Hengaw – Sunday, October 5, 2025
Nasimeh Eslamzehi, a Baloch woman, her Kurdish husband Arsalan Shekhi from Sardasht, and another prisoner identified only as Hassan, have been sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary on charges of “Moharebeh” (waging war against God) in a joint case.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Eslamzehi — currently held in Qarchak Varamin Prison — along with Shekhi and the third defendant Hassan — both detained in Evin Prison — were sentenced to death by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati. They were convicted of “Moharebeh through membership in ISIS.”
Iranian security agencies accused the three of involvement in a bus bombing on the Tehran–Ilam route in September 2023, which resulted in the death of an 18-month-old child. However, during court proceedings, all three defendants denied the allegations.
Eslamzehi was pregnant at the time of her arrest and gave birth to her daughter, Tasnim, seven months later in prison. Both mother and child were held for forty days in a solitary confinement cell with poor ventilation and inadequate lighting before being transferred to the quarantine ward.
