Younes Tanhaei receives 20-month prison sentence in Mahabad

Younes Tanhaei, a Kurdish man from Mahabad, has been sentenced to 20 months and one day in prison by the Iranian judiciary.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Tanhaei, a father of two from the village of Hamzehabad in Mahabad County, was convicted by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, presided over by Judge Yaser Gozli, on charges of “collaboration with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.”

Hengaw has learned that Tanhaei has been deprived of his basic rights since his arrest, including access to a lawyer and in-person visits with his family.

He was arrested at his home in Mahabad on June 18, 2025, by agents of the Intelligence Department and later transferred to Mahabad Prison.

Tanhaei has previously been detained and faced prosecution by security and judicial authorities over his past activities.
