Zanko Mohammadi sentenced to one year in prison in Bukan

Zanko Mohammadi (also known as Seyed Hossein Mohammadi), a Kurdish man from Bukan, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Iranian judiciary. He had previously been detained earlier this summer.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the Court of Appeals upheld a one-year prison sentence for Mohammadi, a resident of Alikand village in Bukan County. He was charged with “cooperation with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.”

He had initially been sentenced to the same one-year term by Branch 101 of the Bukan Criminal Court (Second Branch), presided over by Judge Valaei.

Mohammadi was arrested by Intelligence Department forces on Friday, August 1, 2025, and was temporarily released on August 16 after posting 500 million tomans in bail, pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

Seyed Hossein Mohammadi has previously been pursued and detained by security agencies due to his political activities.
