Tehran court sentences Mohammad Benazadeh Amirkhizi to more than five years in prison

The Iranian judiciary has sentenced Mohammad Benazadeh Amirkhizi, an 80-year-old political defendant from Tehran, to five years and eight months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” and alleged membership in an opposition group.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Benazadeh Amirkhizi was recently convicted by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Amouzadeh. The court sentenced him to eight months in prison for “propaganda against the state” and to five years for the accusation of “membership in an opposition group,” resulting in a combined sentence of five years and eight months.

Benazadeh Amirkhizi was arrested on July 28, 2025, during a raid by security forces on his home in Tehran. He was subsequently transferred to the Intelligence Department’s detention facility in Qom and was later released on bail in mid-October.
