Physician couple detained in Qazvin after treating protest injuries
Hengaw, Friday, January 30, 2026
A physician couple from Qazvin, Dr. Masoud Ebadifard Azari and his wife, Dr. Parisa Porkar, have been detained by Iranian authorities over what has been described as their role in treating individuals injured during the protests. No information is available regarding their fate or current condition.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ebadifard Azari and Porkar, both residents of Qazvin, were arrested by Iranian government institutions and remain in detention in an unknown status.
Ebadifard Azari served as head of Pasteur Hospital in Qazvin, while Porkar worked as an ophthalmologist at the Social Security Hospital in the same city.
In recent weeks, Iranian authorities have increasingly pressured medical workers, detaining and targeting healthcare professionals solely for providing medical care to injured individuals, which is considered an ethical duty and a professional obligation.
