Hengaw confirms identity of man killed during Qeshm protests: Mahmoud Mousavi

Mahmoud Mousavi, a resident of Qeshm, was killed by direct gunfire from forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during public protests in the city. This brings the number of confirmed fatalities resulting from government gunfire during the Qeshm protests to at least two.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mahmoud Mousavi, 29, was shot dead by government forces on the night of Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Qeshm.
Earlier, Hengaw had reported that on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Ako Mohammadi, a 22-year-old Kurdish man from Salas-e Babajani in Kermanshah Province and a resident of Qeshm, was also killed by direct gunfire from government forces during the protests.
Public demonstrations in Qeshm drew a large turnout and were met with severe repression, including the use of violence and live ammunition fired directly at protesters by Iranian security forces.
